This study was conducted under the title: Improving Students Writing in Procedure Text By Using Video At Seventh Grade Students Of SMP Negeri 1 Kupang Tengah. The aim at this research was to find out whether or not the use of video can improve students writing in procedure text. The research problem is “Can using videos improve students writing skills in procedure text?”. Answer the problem of this study, the writer employed a pre-experimental design by in this study. Class VIIA students of SMPN 1 Kupang Tengah who took part in class were 30 students, the research were taught procedural text using video. And were tough without video but using some materials, then the post-test was distributed to them where the result shows that the post-test mean score is 340 and the mean score of the pre-test is 196. that staticall calculation shows the t-test value of both experimental and control is 2599. this means that the result of t-test in post test is significant. This is due to treatment that was only exposed to the experimental group in teaching the material before having the post-test. This concludes that the use of video can improve students writing in procedure text.

ABSTRAK Ninef Suhesty.,1 Maromon Agustina .,2 Ndandara Alfriani .3 Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah dan sejauh mana penggunaan metode four square writing meningkatkan keterampilan menulis siswa. Selain itu, penelitian ini juga bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi motivasi siswa ketika menerapkan metode four square writing pada siswa kelas VIII SMP PGRI Haumenibaki. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas. Dalam pengumpulan data, peneliti menggunakan observasi. Metodologi penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan belajar siswa. Penelitian ini terdiri dari dua siklus dan setiap siklus terdiri dari empat langkah yaitu: perencanaan, tindakan, observasi, dan refleks. Subyek penelitian ini adalah 30 siswa kelas VIII A SMP PGRI Haumenibaki. Data yang dikumpulkan bersifat kualitatif tetapi juga didukung oleh data kuantitatif. Data kualitatif diperoleh melalui observasi dan dokumentasi. Data berupa catatan lapangan, checklist observasi dan foto. Sementara itu, data kuantitatif dikumpulkan dari hasil aktivitas siswa dan hasil tes siswa pada siklus satu dan dua. Skor rata-rata dari setiap tes dibandingkan untuk mengetahui peningkatan siswa dalam keterampilan menulis. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dan pembahasan, terdapat peningkatan yang signifikan pada hasil observasi siswa dalam aktivitas belajar siswa dengan menggunakan metode four square. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari hasil tes pada siklus satu dan dua dengan nilai pada siklus satu adalah 77,5% Sedangkan hasil tes pada siklus dua yaitu 91,2% Ini berarti bahwa dengan menggunakan metode four square dalam keterampilan menulis siswa meningkat.

ABSTRACT Epafras Blegur, Tiarma Marpaung, Zuvyati Aryani Tloanen This study studied the development of students' writing skills through Contextual teaching in class VIII SMP Swasta Swadaya Tarus. The purpose of this research is to find out whether Contextual Teaching can improve students' skills in writing descriptive text. The research used is quantitative research, the teaching method used is pictures. This study used a pre-experimental design in this study. Class VIII SMP Swasta Swadaya Tarus School who took part in the class were 42 students of Class A and B as the population and further divided into 21 students of class B as the sample. Data collection was obtained using tests, pre-tests and post-tests. When data collection techniques are found by calculating the average score on the pre-test and post-test. The results of this study showed that there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test with an average pre-test score of 34.85 and a post-test of 77.61. Based on this, students' vocabulary mastery increased by 77.61 points. The hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. This shows that the use of media images in writing can improve students' writing skills. The research question has been answered.

The main objective of this study was to find out the improvement of students’ ability in writing procedure text using picture. This study was conducted at SMP 2 Kota Kupang, with the population was eight grade students and the sample was class VIII A and VIII B. The number of population was 60 students. The method used in this study was a quantitative method and the design was a quasi-experimental design. The instrument was obtained using a written test. Data collection techniques are found by calculating the average score on the pre- test and post-test in experimental group and control group. The results of this study was indicated that there was a significant difference between experimental group and control group with the mean score in experimental group was 80.3 and the mean score in control group was 50.2. Whereas in the paired test samples, there were significant results between the pre-test and post-test based on the result of the value, the value of t-test (9.86) was higher than the value of t- table (2.045) with df = N-2. It means that the hypothesis(Ho) was rejected and the hypothesis(H1) was accepted. This showed that using picture can improve students’ ability in writing procedure text. The research question has been answered. In addition, the total score of experimental group was 2410 and the total score of control group was 1570. In writing procedure text , can develop students’ way of thinking to be active and critical. Therefore, by using picture can be used as an alternative teaching strategy, in improving students’ writing descriptive paragraph.

The main objective of this study was to find out the effect of Intrapersonal Intelligence strategy, in improving students’ writing descriptive paragraph. This study was conducted at SMAN 2 kota Kupang, with the population was second grade students and the sample was class XI IPA 2 and XI IPA 5 of SMAN 2 Kupang. The number of population was 63 students. The method used in this study was a quantitative method and the design was a quasi-experimental design. The instrument was obtained using a written test. Data collection techniques are found by calculating the average score on the pre-test and post-test in experimental group and control group. The results of this study was indicated that there was a significant difference between experimental group and control group with the mean score in experimental group was 70.6 and the mean score in control group was 50.6. Whereas in the paired test samples, there were significant results between the pre-test and post-test based on the result of the value, the value of t-test (15.8) was higher than the value of t-table (2.058) with df = N-2. It means that the hypothesis(Ho) was rejected and the hypothesis(H1) was accepted. This showed that the effect of Intrapersonal Intelligence strategy can improve students’ writing skills in descriptive paragraph. The research question has been answered. In addition, the total score of experimental group was 2357 and the total score of control group was 1620. The writing descriptive paragraph, develop students’ way of thinking to be broader and dynamic mindset. Therefore, Intrapersonal Intelligence strategy can be used as an alternative teaching strategy, in improving students’ writing descriptive paragraph.

The title is “the use of procedure text pictures series in improving students’ writing ability at smp negeri 7 kolhua “, the reseach problem, is the use of procedure text picture series able to improve students’ writing ability? Methodology used in this research is quantitative research method. The design of this research is a pre-experimental design of a one-group pre-test, post-test design. In this study, The design of this research is as follows. The sample is part of the number and characteristics possessed by the population. In this study, the sample consisted of only one class in the population of class VIII.B, based on the results of preliminary observations there are low learning outcomes, especially in English subjects in class VIII.B SMP Negeri 7 Kolhua Kupang, with totaling 18 students’, 8 Males and 10 Females. To collect data, the researcher conducted tests. The researcher gave a test of writing Procedure text in 2 phases, namely pre-test and post-test. The test score consisted of four aspects. That aspects; measuring are the Content, Structure, Rules Writing, and, Characteristics writing. Whereas in the observation section, the researcher observed the continuity of learning activities to seek benefits from the method applied, based on the score in the pre-test, Based on the score in above the table shows, 6 students got very poor score, students got 8 good score, students got 3 fair score and 1 excellent score. Based on the score in above the table shows, 1 student got very poor score, 1 student got good score, 16 students got excellent score. Based on the analysis of research data, the researcher concludes that procedure text pictures series can develop students’ writing ability in class VIII.B SMP Negeri 7 Kolhua. This can be seen from the main score of students on the pre-test was 9,44 and on the post-test 13,9 as well as an increase in students’ writing ability by 20%. So, it was concluded that the procedure text pictures series method can develop students’ writing ability in the learning process.

INCREASING STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN WRITING DESCRIPTIVE PARAGRAPH THROUGH TEACHING OF PARAGRAPH STRUCTURE AT UPTD SMPNEGERI 11 KUPANG ABSTRACT Bibiana rambu boba joru..,1 Tiarma Marpaung.,2 Zuvyati Aryani Tlonaen..3 This research studied the increasing of students' ability to write descriptive text through teaching paragraph structure to class VIII A UPTD SMPN 11 Kupang. The purpose of this research was to find out whether teaching paragraph structure improves descriptive text writing skills. The research used was quantitati ve research, This study used a pre-experimental design in this study. Class VIII A students of SMPN 11 Kupang who took part in class were 31 students A, and 31 students took part in this research. Data collection was obtained using test, pre-test, and post-test. Data collection techniques was found by calculating the average score on the pre-test and post-test. The results of this study indicated was that there is a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test with an average pre-test score of 79,35 and 99,67 for post-test.Based on this, students' vocabulary mastery increased by 98.70 points. Where as in the paired test samples there were significant results between the pre-test and post-test based on the meaning of the value, namely 0.000 0.05. The hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. This showed that the use of paragraph structure in writing can improve students' writing skills. The research question has been answered. It was concluded the mean score of pre-test was 79,35 and the mean score of post-test was 99,67. The result of t-test shows that the significance values was 0.000 provides students new insight and experience towards learning process. The writing descriptive paragraph develop students’ way of thinking to be broader and dynamic mindset. Therefore, descriptive can be used as an alternative teaching technique to increasing students in learning descriptive text.
