The title of this writing is “Descriptive Study On Imperative Sentence In Sabu Langauge”. This research was conducted to answer research problem; 1. What are the types of imperative sentence in sabu language? 2. What are the function of imperative sentence in Sabu language? The aim of this research was to find out the types of imperative and the function of imperative sentence in sabu language. The writer used qualitative method (interview and recording), base on the data and fact that serve in narrative explanation and did the interview. and the result of the interview show and answer those research problem about the types and function of imperative sentence in Sabu Language. The types of imperative sentence in sabu languae consists of two types those are positive and negative command. while the function of imperative sentence in Sabu Language consist of five function those are 1. Imperative sentence as Instruction. 2. Imperative sentence as Request 3. Imperative sentence as Suggestion, 4. Imperative sentence as Advise, 5. Imperative sentence as Prohibition.

The study discuss about “A DESCRIPTIVE STUDY OF ENGLISH TEACHERS STRATEGIES IN TEACHING SPEAKING AMID PANDEMIC COVID-19 AT SMP ADVENT NUSRA IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2020/2021”. The writer formulates 2 research questions, namely: (1) What are the strategies that teacher used in teaching speaking amid pandemic covid-19? And (2) How does the English teacher apply strategy in teaching speaking amid pandemic covid-19. The aims of study in this research are: to find out the English teacher strategies in teaching speaking amid pandemic covid-19 and to know the English teacher apply the strategies in teaching speaking amid pandemic covid-19. This research used qualitative method and collecting the data by interview and recording the conversation. The writer uses theory Brown 1994 about strategies in teaching speaking and Malyana 2020 theory about the teaching process amid pandemic. From the 12 strategies proposed by Brown, the researcher only used 4 strategies in teaching speaking, namely: role play, storytelling, dialogue, and opinion/idea. Judging from this pandemic situation, the teaching process is carried out online and offline. Some of these strategies are used because they are very effective to improving students speaking in English during pandemic covid-19. From the result of this study, the research expected teachers to used effective strategies and good media selection so that students can easily understand the lessons given amid the pandemic covid-19

ABSTRACT Epafras Blegur, Tiarma Marpaung, Zuvyati Aryani Tloanen This study studied the development of students' writing skills through Contextual teaching in class VIII SMP Swasta Swadaya Tarus. The purpose of this research is to find out whether Contextual Teaching can improve students' skills in writing descriptive text. The research used is quantitative research, the teaching method used is pictures. This study used a pre-experimental design in this study. Class VIII SMP Swasta Swadaya Tarus School who took part in the class were 42 students of Class A and B as the population and further divided into 21 students of class B as the sample. Data collection was obtained using tests, pre-tests and post-tests. When data collection techniques are found by calculating the average score on the pre-test and post-test. The results of this study showed that there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test with an average pre-test score of 34.85 and a post-test of 77.61. Based on this, students' vocabulary mastery increased by 77.61 points. The hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. This shows that the use of media images in writing can improve students' writing skills. The research question has been answered.

The title of this writing is “A Descriptive Study of Prefix in the Book of Matthew and Mark in Lii Hawu”. This research was conducted to answer the research problem; 1. What are the types of prefix in the book of Matthew and Mark in Lii Hawu? 2. What is the function of prefix in the book of Matthew and Mark in Lii Hawu? The aim of this research is to find out the types of prefix and the function of prefix in Lii Hawu. The method used in this research has been descriptive qualitative. The document from the Bible Lii Hawu (Indonesian Bible Institute) “New Testament in Today’s Sabu Version” from the Book of Matthew and Mark . Based on the data collected, the analysis focused on types and function affix in Lii Hawu. The results of data analysis showed that: (1) Type of prefix. There are four types of prefix, they are {pe-, ke-, he-, and ta-}. For example: (a). {pe-} + Kaddhi ‘get up’= pekaddhi ‘wake’, (b). {he-} + Atta ‘cut’ = heatta ‘piece’, (c). {ke-} + tallu ‘three’ = ketallu ‘third’, and (d). {ta-} + walle ‘buy’ = tawalle ’buy’. (2) Prefix in Lii Hawu has function produce verbs if they are attached to verbs. Example: [ta- + [walle]V]V, -walle ‘buy’is the verb and ta-walle ‘buy’ is the verb. Adjectives and verbs. Example: [pe- + [made]Adj]V], -made ‘dead’ is the adjective and pe-made ‘turn off’ is the verb. Produces a noun if it is attached to numbers. Example: [he- +[dau]N]Num, -dau ‘person’ is the noun and he-dau ‘a,/a is the numer. Verbs and numbers. Example: [he- +[bhakka]V]Num], -bhakka ‘split’ is the verb and he-bhakka ‘adjacent’ is the number. To produce number when it is attached to number. Example: [ke- + [tallu]Num]Num, -tallu ‘three’ is cardinal number and ke-tallu ‘third’ is ordinal number. Produce cousative verb when it is attached to verb. Example: [pe- + bui]V]V, -bui ‘fall’is the verb and pe-bui ‘drop’ is the verb.

The main objective of this study was to find out the effect of Intrapersonal Intelligence strategy, in improving students’ writing descriptive paragraph. This study was conducted at SMAN 2 kota Kupang, with the population was second grade students and the sample was class XI IPA 2 and XI IPA 5 of SMAN 2 Kupang. The number of population was 63 students. The method used in this study was a quantitative method and the design was a quasi-experimental design. The instrument was obtained using a written test. Data collection techniques are found by calculating the average score on the pre-test and post-test in experimental group and control group. The results of this study was indicated that there was a significant difference between experimental group and control group with the mean score in experimental group was 70.6 and the mean score in control group was 50.6. Whereas in the paired test samples, there were significant results between the pre-test and post-test based on the result of the value, the value of t-test (15.8) was higher than the value of t-table (2.058) with df = N-2. It means that the hypothesis(Ho) was rejected and the hypothesis(H1) was accepted. This showed that the effect of Intrapersonal Intelligence strategy can improve students’ writing skills in descriptive paragraph. The research question has been answered. In addition, the total score of experimental group was 2357 and the total score of control group was 1620. The writing descriptive paragraph, develop students’ way of thinking to be broader and dynamic mindset. Therefore, Intrapersonal Intelligence strategy can be used as an alternative teaching strategy, in improving students’ writing descriptive paragraph.

This research presents “A descriptive study on conjunction found on students ‘thesis background’ at Artha Wacana Christian Univesity in academic year 2018/2019” The aim of this research is to find out conjunctions and the types of conjunctions on students’ thesis background at Artha Wacana Christian University in academic year 2018/2019. The method used is descriptive qualitative. The result shows that 1) the conjunction used are : and, or, although, even though, as, that, which, when, after, thus, so, therefore, besides, furthermore, who, what, therefore, due, where, because, however, but, who, which, if, how, what, such as, before, that is why, so that, besides, before, moreover,whether,hence.2) The types of conjunction are non basic conjunction, subordinate conjunction, subordinate that express consequence in time, subordinate that express result consequence, subordinate that express cause/reason, subordinate that express circumstances, subordinate that express consesion, subordinate advertise conjunction, subordinate additive conjunction. Thus, the students needs to learn conjunction and the types of conjunction so they can use the correct conjunction to make their writing become coherence.

This research about an analysis of speech act function in Helong language. To support this study the writer used theory of Levinnson (1983:240). The research problem of this study is what is the types of speech act function in Helong language. The aims of this study to find put the types of speech act function. The method thatused in the research is qualitative method. The object that used in this research is Helong language. There are five speech act function types such as : Representative speech act funtion “Leol neot ti mam leol in dadi ta kit ka sisi, sis bubuit tun”, Directive speech act function Rian bake tia le kit kuti, Commisive speech act function “Nesang lom tanggal 1 mesa li eto sole un ator un in nika ki ki kon siap pakian siap kaor babanas nas le kit lako”, Expressive speech act function “Auk kalat tas mata nas muir ke nenang nga lo kon nam, totoang gas batur lo”, and Declarative speech act function “Apin ni kit ka nol sisi ta, ola ki nuting sis ut po ka”. The data was collected by listening to recording that used Helong language, typed and translated into English then specify into types of speech act function. After analyzing the data the writer found out eigthty five data of speech act function they are twenty one speech act function of representative, thirty five speech act function of directive, fifthteen speech act function of commisive, six speech act function of expressive, anf eigfh speech act function of declarative.

INCREASING STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN WRITING DESCRIPTIVE PARAGRAPH THROUGH TEACHING OF PARAGRAPH STRUCTURE AT UPTD SMPNEGERI 11 KUPANG ABSTRACT Bibiana rambu boba joru..,1 Tiarma Marpaung.,2 Zuvyati Aryani Tlonaen..3 This research studied the increasing of students' ability to write descriptive text through teaching paragraph structure to class VIII A UPTD SMPN 11 Kupang. The purpose of this research was to find out whether teaching paragraph structure improves descriptive text writing skills. The research used was quantitati ve research, This study used a pre-experimental design in this study. Class VIII A students of SMPN 11 Kupang who took part in class were 31 students A, and 31 students took part in this research. Data collection was obtained using test, pre-test, and post-test. Data collection techniques was found by calculating the average score on the pre-test and post-test. The results of this study indicated was that there is a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test with an average pre-test score of 79,35 and 99,67 for post-test.Based on this, students' vocabulary mastery increased by 98.70 points. Where as in the paired test samples there were significant results between the pre-test and post-test based on the meaning of the value, namely 0.000 0.05. The hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. This showed that the use of paragraph structure in writing can improve students' writing skills. The research question has been answered. It was concluded the mean score of pre-test was 79,35 and the mean score of post-test was 99,67. The result of t-test shows that the significance values was 0.000 provides students new insight and experience towards learning process. The writing descriptive paragraph develop students’ way of thinking to be broader and dynamic mindset. Therefore, descriptive can be used as an alternative teaching technique to increasing students in learning descriptive text.

ABSTRACT Research problem in this research that is: What are the problems faced by the students in writing descriptive text? This research is aimed is to find out the students problems in writing descriptive text at SMP Negeri Satu Atap Fatubia. Population in this research is all students’ class VIII with total 39 students’, and the sample in this research is class VIII A with total 20 students. To obtain the data required for this research, the writer has given an explanation about descriptive text and then given the time for students to write their own text about descriptive text especially in describing people. The results of this study showed that the students’ faced several problems in writing descriptive text. They were: grammar, vocabulary, organization, content, and mechanic. Therefore, to overcome this problem teacher should give more attention in teaching descriptive by paying attention to students’ grammar, vocabulary, organization, content, and mechanic. Teacher is also need to find some interest activity to make teaching English especially writing can be understood by students.

ABSTRACT A DESCRIPTIVE STUDY ON AUDIO VISUAL MATERIALS USED FOR TEACHING NUMBERS TO JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AT SMP NEGERI BESTAUMUTI IN TOBU SUB-DISTRICT This research aims to perceive the used of audiovisual materials by the teacher in teaching numbers to junior high school. The writer formulated three research question namely, (1) what are the types of audiovisual materials used for teaching numbers, (2) how does the teacher get the sources of audiovisual materials, and (3) what are the challenges using audiovisual materials. Aims of this research are, to know the types of audiovisual materials used for teaching numbers, to know how does the teacher get the sources of audiovisual materials and to know the challenges using audiovisual materials. The data was taken from interview using in-depth interview techniques with the English teacher then the writer transcribed, identified, clasified and analyzed the data in conducting this research by using descriptive qualitative method. The result proves that the audiovisual materials that used by the teacher for teaching numbers are four types such as objects, demonstration, handout and audio video in order to help the students easy to understand and memorize the material. Besides the four types the teacher get the sources from internet by download and textbook from the school. There also the teacher found two challenges using the audiovisual materials such as time constrains and professional knowledge and technical know how.

This research aimed at knowing the advantages and disadvantages of door to door English learning during Covid-19 pandemic at SMPN Satu Atap Batulai. This research generally answered two questions as follows: (1) what are the advantages of the door-to-door English Learning during Covid-19 pandemic in SMPN Satu Atap Batulai in Kuli Aisele Village at Rote Regency? and (2) What are the disadvantages of the door to door English Learning during Covid-19 pandemic in SMPN Satu Atap Batulai in Kuli Aisele Village at Rote Regency. There were two teachers of SMPN Satu Atap Batulai involved in this study. To attain the aims of this study, the data were collected through interview and questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative. The findings revealed that teachers had thirteen advantages and disadvantages during door to door English learning. The advantages included door to door learning is one of the solutions when online learning is not available, can encourage students motivation learning, can create a fun learning atmosphere, did not needed a lot of equipment, directing students towards a better environment, parents supporting students in learning, does not interfere the students time, got a good responses from students, and door to door learning was suited with covid-19 situation. Meanwhile, the disadvantages included door to door learning does not impact on physical activity and creativity of students, cannot increase the learning interest of students, teachers got some obstacles in learning, and the last, teachers experinced some losses in learning

The title of this study is “A DESCRIPTIVE STUDY ON TEACHERS’ TEACHING METHODS OF ENGLISH COURSE AT SMAN 1 KUPANG TIMUR”. The aim of this study are to find out the teachers teaching methods of English course. The design of this research is a descriptive qualitative method. The sample used is three English teachers, the research instrument used to conduct the data are interview and record, the writer asks some questions to the teachers. The writer transcribe the recording result, the writer identified the data, classified the data, the writer analyzed the data, and the writer describe a conclusion. The results of the study indicate that of the three English teachers each have teaching methods they use when teaching in class. From the result teaching methods used by English teacher I are: Cooperative learning method, Genre based text method, Project based method, Problem based method, Jigsaw method, Role playing method, and Numbered head together method. The methods used by English teacher II are: Problem based method and Discovery learning method. The methods used by the English teacher III are: Problem based method, Discovery learning method, and Genre based text method.

ABSTRACT The title of this study is “A DESCRIPTIVE STUDY ON NOUN OF GAURA LANGUAGE (A LANGUAGE SPOKEN IN WEST SUMBA) ”. The aims of this study are to find out the forms of nouns in Gaura. The informants of the research are three native speakers of Gaura language who live in Gaura village.The instrument of collecting data is questionnaire. Dealing with the 60 Indonesian sentences and the writer asks to the informants to translate into the Gaura language, the writer identified the data and classified the nouns based on the forms. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. In analyzing the data, the writer found four forms of noun in Gaura language, they are: (1) concrete : a). Common noun : Ra’ jara do nadi Marten, b). Proper noun : Baba gu ngara nai Timotiusui, c). Collective noun : Olebei gu wali da la Garo and d). material noun : Ole gu koha pahla nage la loko and abstract noun: Na’ toyo mayega nage katena, (2) countable noun : Na’ lakeda malengo nage la pihaka and uncountable noun : Iyo kah nage moh la pahara, (3) singular noun : Na’ boga pala nage la pinya and plural noun : Ra’ hapi mu dage ruba and (4) gender : a) masculine gender : Angwu nai Marten kalete jara nage, b) feminine gender : lawinne nai Natan halako nage la pahara and c). common gender : totu na wo da ni omaha Key Words : Descriptive study , Noun , Gaura Language

ABSTRACT
This research is about A Descriptive Study of Characters in Sydney Sheldon’s novel The Naked Face. The research questions in this research are: What are the types of characters in the novel The Naked Face and What are the characteristic of the character in the novel The Naked Face. The aims of this research are: To know the types of characters in the novel and To describe the characteristic of the character in the novel. The method used in this research is qualitative method. The data resources used in this research is the writer taken the data from novel The Naked Face by Sydney Sheldon. The technique of data collection used in this research is done through by documentation, then analyzed each dialogues of the characters and characteristics that includes the types of characters and characteristic of the character. After analyzing the data, the writer found two types of characters such as; the first is Major character they are; Dr. Judd Steven, McGravy, and Frank Angeli and the second is Minor character they are; Carol and John Hanson. And writer analyzing two characteristic of the character such as; the first is Protagonist characteristic they are; Dr. Judd Steven, McGreavy, and Frank Angeli, and the second is Antagonist characteristic, they are Moody, Harrison Burke, Anthoni DeMarco, and Teri.

ABSTRACT This research is about “A Descriptive Study on Synonym of Waijewa Language in Southwest Sumba Regency”. The problems of this study are what are the types of synonyms found in Waijewa language and what are the types of synonym used in Waijewa language? The aims of this study are to find out the synonym in Waijewa language and to find out types of synonym used in Waijewa language. The objects of this study are the native speakers of Waijewa language. This research used descriptive qualitative method. Technique of data collection was done through field research. The instrument used in this research is observation by recording. From the result of observation by recording, the writer found four types of synonym, namely absolute synonym, contextual synonym, cognitive synonym, plesyonym (near-synonym). Based on the four types there are only two types of synonym that used by Wewewa community, namely absolute synonym (e.g. eta-patu’u-gilakka-patete. Kako-paga-kaweloka. Gogola-golena-warraka) and plesyonym (e.g. dura-beika. Wolla-kedde, barra-tukke, muutu-bangata). Based on findings and discussion it can be concluded that the synonym that found in Waijewa language and the types of synonym that used by Wewewa society is various depend on the situation and the person being spoken to.

ABSTRACT Politeness strategy is a strategy that used by the people in order to safe and satisfy the hearers’ face (Brown and Levinson, 1987). This research is about a descriptive study of politeness strategies in Mata Najwa Talk Show. The problems of this study are what are the types of politeness strategies that found in Mata Najwa Talk Show in Trans7? and what are the dominant types of politeness strategyin Mata Najwa Talk Show in Trans7?. The objects of this study are the participants in Mata Najwa Talk show in Trans7. This research used descriptive qualitative research and aimed to find the types and the dominant politeness strategies used in Mata Najwa Talk Show. The types of politeness found in theory by Brown and Levinson (1987) namely: Bald On Record Strategy, Positive Politeness, Negative Politeness, and Off Record Strategy. The result of this research showed that all the types of the fourth strategies were used by the participants of Mata Najwa Talk Show. They are bald on record strategy, positive politeness strategy, negative politeness strategy, and off record strategy. From twenty-eight utterances, six utterances as bald on record (e.g. good night and see you) the utterance refers to sub-strategy welcoming and farewells. Ten utterances of them recognized as positive politeness (e.g. interesting!) This utterance is a kind of sub-strategy exaggerate (interest, approval, sympathy with H) of positive politeness. Four utterances as negative politeness (e.g. sorry what was offered for?) this utterance is a type of sub-strategy apologize. And eight utterances as off record strategy (e.g. I want to fight the flow because only died fish that swim follows the flow, hopefully everyone will be a fish that resist the flow) this utterance show the type sub-strategy use metaphoric. Therefore,positive politeness as the dominated strategy that used by the host and the guests in Mata Najwa Talk show. ABSTRACT “A Descriptive Study on Lesson Plan Designed by EFL Teachers at SMP Swasta Diakui Adhiyaksa 2 Kupang In The School Year 2019/2020” Curriculum is an important thing for developing educational program in Indonesia. Lesson plan is define as a source or tool that guide the teachers through their working learning process. This study investigated the components of Lesson Plans in SMP Swasta Diakui Adhiyaksa 2 Kupang, based on the Minister of National Education Regulation Number 81 year 2013. The research question was: what were the components of lesson plans designed by an English teacher at SMP Swasta Diakui Adhiyaksa 2 Kupang? The aim of this study was to find out the components of lesson plans designed by English teacher at SMP Swasta Diakui Adhiyaksa 2 Kupang. This research used qualitative method. The data collected through document of lesson plans. The result showed that the lesson plans that has been designed in 2019 of odd semester and 2020 of even semester covered nine components that has been determined by the minister of national education regulation number 81 2013 except 2020 of odd semester. They were identity of lesson plan, score competences, basic competences and indicator of competence achievement, objective of study, material of study, method of study, media, tools, and source of study, teaching activities, and assessments. However, the lesson plans made in 2020 of odd semester only consist of four components. They were: identity of lesson plans, objective of study, material of study, and assessments.
