AN ANALYSIS OF TRANSLATION METHOD ON NARATIVE TEXT FROM INDONESIAN INTO ENGLISH DONE BY SIXTH SEMESTER STUDENTS AT ARTHA WACANA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY

An Analysis of Translation Methods on narrative Text from Indonesian into English Done by Sixth Semester Students at Artha Wacana Christian University ABSTRACT Student, Name1 Supervisor1, Name.2 Supervisor2, Name.3 (Mnir, Yashinta Lereansi) (Ngongo, Magdalena) (Ludji, Ifoni) Translation is changing an activity of changing a language into another language spoken or written. It has become something which affects the development of world literature. This research was conducted to identify the translation methods applied by the students in translating narrative text. The objective of this research were to describe 1. the types of translation methods, and 2. the dominant types of translation methods used by the sixth semester students. This research was classified as descriptive qualitative method. The researcher carried out this study on May 2022. The researcher obtained the data from the 33 students. Based on the analysis, it was found out that there were eight types of translation methods used in translating the story from Indonesian into English. They were 1.word-for-word translation example : SL : pada suatu hari Sangkuriang minta pamit untuk berburu.TL : ‘to a certain day Sangkuriang request leave for hunt’. (2) literal translation example SL : Dayang Sumbi tidak akan menikah dengan Sangkuriang.TL : ‘Dayang Sumbi would never marry with her son’.(3) faithful translation example SL : Ibu pergi ke pasar TL : ‘Mother goes to the market’. (4) semantic translation example SL : air sungai mengalir TL : ‘the river run’. (5) adaptation translation example SL : Rambut nenek itu putih seperti salju TL : ‘Grandma’s hair was white like cotton’. (6) free translation example SL : suatu hari sangkuriang minta pamit untuk berburu.TL : ‘one day sangkuriang want to hunting. (7) idiomatic translation example SL : menendang ember TL : ‘kick the bucket’. (8) communicative translation example SL : Pada suatu hari Sangkuriang minta pamit untuk berburu. TL : ‘One day, Sangkuriang asked a permission to Dayang Sumbi to go to hunting’.Relating to the dominant types of translation methods, it was found out communicative translation type was the dominant 33 times used and it was followed by word for word translation that consist of 26 times used, faithful translation was 6 times, semantic translation was 3 times, literal translation was used 12 times, adaptation translation was used 0 times, free translation was used 0 times and idiomatic translation was 5 times used. AN ANALYSIS ON TEACHERS STRATEGIES ON ONLINE TEACHING WRITING NARRATIVE TEXT DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC AT SMAN 1 AMARASI SELATAN YEAR 2020/2021

ABSTRACT This thesis was written with title An Analysis on Teacher’s Strategies on Online Teaching Writing Narrative Text During Pandemic of Covid-19 at SMAN 1 Amarasi Selatan Year 2020/2021. The research questions is what strategies are used by teachers in online teaching writing narrative text during the covid-19 pandemic and how the teachers apply the strategies in online teaching writing narrative. The purposes of this study is to find out the strategies used by the teachers in online teaching and to find out how the teachers apply these strategies in online teaching. The method used to collect the data is a questionnaire. The source of this data research was taken from the questionnaire results of two English teachers at SMAN 1 Amarasi Selatan. The results of this study indicate that the two teachers have the same teaching strategy, while the way to apply the strategy is different. ABSTRACT A DESCRIPTIVE STUDY ON LOCAL CONTENT ADAPTATION IN TEACHING NARRATIVE TEXT AT SMP PGRI KAIWATU ACADEMIC YEAR 2020/2021 The objective of this research was to find out what are local content adaptation in teaching narrative text and to find out how local content is adaptation teaching narrative text. The method of this research was descriptive qualitative research methods. The subjects of this research were English teachers who has been adapted local content and document teaching material. The instrument of this research was an interview, documentation and analysis document. The results of this research found that there are some adaptaion impact related to the result interview those impacts has classified became general impact and specific impacts those adaptation impact such as background of culture, culture as a medium of learning, the teachers’ application, self-cultural understanding, students’ ability in absorption, students’ interesting, students’ reaction, the existence of moral massage, develops students’ cultural environment, students’ enthusiasm, teachers’ application, students’ low anxiety, anddevelopment students’ charactersn and the researcher also found three items about how local content is adapted in narrative text in the form of local stories based on result document analysis those items such as included cultural values, integrated teaching material and teachers’ design. Basically in final of this research was local content are adapted in teaching narrative text based on the proved result of research. Keywords: local content adaptation, teaching practice, narrative text.
