Teaching English as a Foreign Language, 1912-1936: Michael West
This collection focuses on the small number of creative pioneers working overseas in the 1920s and 1930s whose work laid the methodological foundations for contemporary English language teaching.
Teaching English as a Foreign Language, 1912-1936: Lawrence Faucett
Following the Second World War, the British Council, along with British publishers and universities, began to take a serious interest in English as a foreign language teaching ('ELT') and the UK soon gained a dominant role in the development and export of teaching approaches and materials. This set includes the works of neglected theorists such as Horace Wyatt, who indicated that English can be taught through the mother tongue as well as 'directly', and Michael West, whose emphasis on the educational value of teaching reading 'in difficult circumstances' has often been ignored in favor of the more utilitarian, spoken-language approach to ELT.

Explicit foreign culture teaching in the English Foreign Language classroom for intercultural competence development
Essay from the year 2014 in the subject English - Pedagogy, Didactics, Literature Studies, grade: 19, , course: Especialización en la Enseñanza de Inglés como Lengua Extranjera, language: English, abstract: This paper examines foreign culture acquisition and intercultural competence as sociolinguistic components addressed in the English as a Foreign Language classroom due to the relation between culture and language. Sociolinguistic studies explain that when acquiring a new language, one acquires not only new linguistic patterns, new words and new sounds but a new culture. In consequence, this study explores if explicit foreign culture teaching is necessary in the English as a Foreign Language classroom in order to help learners achieve effectiveness in intercultural communication. Main implications of this study suggest the necessity of teaching foreign culture because the classroom represents the central cultural core for English as a Foreign Language students. Also, interculture development significantly varies from one learner to another, which means there is a necessity of including teaching tools in the English as a Foreign Language classroom for enhancing cultural awareness of both cultures, native and foreign, with the aim of having students reach cultural integration.

Creativity and Teaching English as a Foreign Language
One of the challenges of teaching English as a foreign language (EFL) abroad is the lack of state-of-the-art instructional materials. A solution to the scarcity of effective materials is the implementation of creative classroom activities that move beyond reliance on textbooks. These activities can enliven instruction, and can be developed using realia or other authentic materials from the target culture. In light of this, this book presents a study on creativity in teaching English as a foreign language. It discusses: (Creativity in Educational Program, Understanding Creativity, Creativity Thinking and Critical Thinking, Learning-Teaching Creativity and The Consensual Assesment Technique of Creativity).
Thinking about going into teaching ESL/EFL/ESOL
This short book is for you if you are considering going into the field of teaching English as a second/foreign language, whether English is your first (native) language or not. I have written it with those who are contemplating pursuing English teaching (ESL, EFL or ESOL) as a career option particularly in mind, but it would also be of interest to individuals who might be thinking about engaging in English teaching on a short term or voluntary basis. My purpose in writing this book is to help you decide whether or not teaching English as a second/foreign language is something you might want to pursue. Based upon my own experience of teaching English as a second language, and my knowledge of the English language teaching field more broadly, I discuss: - what it is like in practical terms to be an ESL/EFL/ESOL teacher - what the job involves and what to expect - beyond the practicalities, to give some insight into how EFL teachers think about their task - the skills, qualities and knowledge needed to be an ESL/EFL/ESOL teacher - the kind of opportunities available I also give some ideas about where to begin with getting into English teaching, and I provide recommendations on how to find out more about the field. Although the focus of this book is the teaching of the English language, much of what is written will be equally relevant to teaching any language. So, if English is not your first language and you are interested in teaching your native language to those who do not know it, this book is for you too.
The Role of Self-Esteem in Foreign Language Learning and Teaching
This book demonstrates how foreign language self-esteem (FLSE) affects foreign language (L2) learning and teaching, and how it fluctuates with growing proficiency. Further, it explains the interaction between FLSE and a range of factors of recognized importance in second language acquisition (SLA). The theoretical part of the book presents the main pillars of self-esteem as well as its notable influence on psychological functioning and learning, with special emphasis being placed on L2 learning. In turn, the empirical part presents the findings of a study that explored the trajectory and behavioural outcomes of FLSE across three stages of education. The book closes by outlining future research directions, as well as some pedagogical implications. In particular, the findings of the study can be employed in teaching English as a foreign or second language by helping instructors understand the significance of learners’ individual differences.
PENGANTAR KEWIRAUSAHAAN
