ABSTRACT A COMPARATIVE STUDY ON THE ENGLISH LEARNING ABILITY OF STUDENTS IN GRADE XII OF SCIENCE MAJOR AND LANGUAGE MAJOR AT SMA EFATA SOE DURING ONLINE LEARNING The aims of this study are to know the differences and similarity of achievement outcomes between Science major and Language major students and to describe and compare which one major of the students that have the most ability in learning English. Quantitative research was used as the method of this research with population in grade XII science major and language major class, as a sample that is science major class consists of 30 students and language major class consists of 30 students. The documentation technique was used to collect the data to complete this study. Analysis the data by using calculate the average ability students and classify students’ score based on the ability level of students. The result of this study shows the ability in learning English of students in science major get 100% or 30 students have good ability in knowledge and skills, with the highest score is 93 and the lowest score is 84. The most students get a score of 86, students get the score in very high/advance level (81-100), the average score is 88.While the ability in learning English of language major students have 60% or from 30 students get the highest score is 92 and the lowest score is 76. The most students get a score of 76, with the average score is 80. For two types assessment in K13 program, 60% score of knowledge and 63,3% score of skills in as high/intermediate level (61-80), and then 40% score of knowledge and 36,7% score of skills in very high level (81-100). So, 60% students in language major have intermediate level ability, and 40% students have advance level ability in learning English. The ability to learning English for students in Science major is better or higher than ability to learning English of students in language major.
