Dengan demikian, pewartaan firman tidak menjadi sarana pembenaran kekerasan atas nama iman, tetapi berfungsi membentuk iman yang peka terhadap keadilan, kemanusiaan, dan tanggung jawab moral Kata Kunci: Kritik Ideologi, Gale A. Yee, Ester 9:11–17, Kekerasan, Pewartaan Firman GMIT ABSTRACT This study aims to examine the ideology of violence in Esther 9:11–17 using the ideological criticism approach developed by Gale A. Yee and to reflect on its implications for responsible proclamation of the Word within the Gereja Masehi Injili di Timor (GMIT). Esther 9:11–17 is one of the most problematic passages in the Book of Esther because it presents a narrative of Jewish retaliation against their enemies that is politically and religiously legitimized. This narrative not only records the experience of Jewish deliverance in the diaspora but also shapes particular perspectives on communal identity, power relations, and the justification of violence. This research employs a qualitative method with a library research approach. The interpretive method used is ideological criticism, carried out through intrinsic analysis of the narrative structure, characterization, and the binary opposition of “us” and “them,” as well as extrinsic analysis of the socio-political context and ideological background underlying the text. Through this approach, the biblical text is understood not as a neutral narrative, but as an ideological construction that produces and legitimizes violence. The findings indicate that the violence depicted in Esther 9:11–17 functions as an ideological product that shapes Jewish communal identity and normalizes retaliation as part of the deliverance narrative. In the GMIT context, this critical reading helps ministers of the Word avoid proclaiming the text in a literal and normative manner, and instead encourages a reflective, ethical, and responsible interpretation. Thus, the proclamation of the Word does not serve to justify violence in the name of faith, but contributes to the formation of faith that is sensitive to justice, humanity, and moral responsibility.
