Abstrak
ABSTRACT The title of the research is A Study On Metaphor Used In Hamayang Of Purung Ta Liangu Marapu Caremony In Central Sumba. The research problem is what are the types of the metaphor in Hamayang Of Purung Ta Liangu Marapu caremony. The aim of study is to describe the types of metaphor used in hamayang of the Purung Ta Liangu Marapu caremony. In obtaining the data the writer used is interview. The method used in this research is descriptive method. In collecting the data, the writer uses theory of Lakoff and Johnson (1980) about metaphor conseptual theory to identify kinds of metaphor. Then the writer analized the meaning to determine target and source based on theory of Lakoff and Johnson (1980). The result of this study show that there are 8 phrases containing structural metaphor ‘kaku kawuku ne na rahu’ means I made an important day. 8 phrases containing orientational metaphor ‘ta nyau marapu bata habayang’ means in marapu we worship and 6 phrases containing ontological metaphor is ‘ukegama wai maring wai malala’ means give us cold water.
