AN ANALYSIS ON MAXIM FOUND IN “TELL YOUR DREAMS” NOVEL BY SIDNEY SHELDON
research is entitled about “an analysis on maxim found in “Tell Your Dreams” novel by Sidney Sheldon”. The research problems of this study are what types on maxim found in “Tell Your Dreams” novel by Sidney Sheldon and what dominant types of maxim are found in “Tell Your Dreams” novel by Sidney Sheldon. The aims of this studies is to find out types and dominant maxim found in “Tell Your Dreams” novel by Sidney Sheldon. To support this study the writer used theory of Grice (1975). Descriptive qualitative method is apllied in this research. The object of this research is “Tell Your Dreams” novel by Sidney Sheldon. There are four types of maxim found, namely : maxim of Quantity, maxim of Quality, maxim of Relation and maxim of Manner. The data was collected by reading the novel, specify into the types and dominant types of maxim. After analyzing the data the writer found one hundred and sixty-four data that consisted of thirty-four data of maxim of quantity, Ninety-two data of maxim of quality, thirty five data of maxim of relation and three data of maxim of manner. The dominant types of maxim found in this research is maxim of quality. Keywords : maxim, novel, descriptve qualitative. Penelitian ini tentang analisis maksim yang di temukan dalam novel “Tell your Dreams” oleh Sidney Sheldon. Rumusan masalah dari penelitian ini adalah apa saja bentuk maksim dan bentuk maksim manakah yang banyak terdapat dalam novel “Tell Your Dreams” oleh Sidney Sheldon. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk menemukan jenis maksim dalam “Tell Your Dreams” oleh Sidney Sheldon dan bentuk manakah yang paling banyak dalam novel “Tell Your Dreams”oleh Sidney Sheldon. Untuk mendukung penelitian ini penulis menggunakan teori dari Grice (1975). Metode deskriptif kualitatif yang di gunakan dalam penelitian ini. Obyek dari penelitian ini adalah novel “Tell Your Dreams”. Di temukan empat jenis maksim yang terdiri dari: maksim kuantiti, maksim kualitas, maksim relasi dan maksim cara. Data di kumpulkan melalui membaca “Tell Your Dreams” novel oleh Sidney Sheldon. Setelah menganalisa data penulis menemukan seratus enam puluh empat sebagai data dari maksim yang terdiri dari tiga puluh empat data dari maksim kuantiti, sembilan puluh dua data dari maksim kualitas, tiga puluh lima dari maksim relasi dan tiga data dari maksim cara. Maksim yang banyak ditemukan dalam penelitian ini adalah maksim kualiti. Kata kunci : maksim, novel, kualitatif deskripsi.
