ABSTRACTION Banking is the lifeblood of the economy in all countries, many wheels of the economy are mainly driven by banks both directly and indirectly. Banking in Indonesia plays an extremely important role, especially since Indonesia is a country that is developing in all sectors. This is explained in article 4 of Law no. 10 of 1998, namely Indonesian banking aims to support the implementation of national development in order to increase equity, economic growth and national stability towards the improvement of the common people. To maintain survival in a turbulent financial system, a bank must be able to compete with competing banks and other financial intermediary units that also provide financial services. A bank is said to successfully win its business competition if it is able to provide bank financial services better than its competitors, as well as being able to adapt to any environmental changes. With their managerial skills, bank managers can turn turbulent environmental threats into profitable business opportunities. Creative-innovative bank management always tries to create a variety of prospective and profitable bank service products without ignoring the principles of asset liability management (ALMA), which harmonizes profitability and risk. Looking at the history of Indonesian banking, conventional banks existed much earlier than Islamic banks, which only existed in 1992. With a longer time, conventional banks have long dominated the national banking market with a large number of banks. However, along with the development of the banking world and the need for the community to obtain financial services based on profit-sharing principles, the government made Law No.7 of 1992 concerning Banking which implicitly opened up opportunities for banking business activities that have a profit-sharing operational basis which are detailed in Government Regulation No. 72 of 1992 concerning Banks Based on Profit-Sharing Principles. It needs to be honestly recognized that conventional banking, which is rooted in the philosophy of capitalism, is presumably only guided by human reason and driven by a strong desire to develop capital or wealth individually. In fact, the extreme point of the teachings of capitalism is clearly contrary to the economic system of socialism which also emphasizes the common interest, thus sacrificing personal interests which should also be valued. financial problems that threaten bank operations. Capital and financial risk factors are suspected to play an important role in explaining the bankruptcy phenomenon. With the early detection of banking conditions, it is possible for the bank to take anticipatory steps to prevent the financial crisis from being handled immediately. One of them is the performance of Bank BTPN Tbk. seen from the profitability ratio using the Return on Assets (ROA) analysis experiencing instability. This is an attraction for researchers because profitability is a ratio that describes the acquisition of profit / profit by using a number of resources it has. This is as Harahap Yang states that profitability describes the ability to earn profits through all existing capabilities and resources such as activities through credit provided, cash, capital, number of employees, number of branches, and so on. The same thing is expressed by Danang (2013: 113) which states that profitability is the ability to profit from the results of its operations. The level of profitability describes the financial condition (Profit). so that it can be known about the good or bad state of a Bank reflects work performance in a certain period. The purpose of this study is to answer two problems, namely to analyze the effect of asset growth on profitability and to analyze the effect of capital structure on the profitability of PT Bank Tabungan Pensiunan Nasional Tbk (Bank BTPN). This research is descriptive quantitative using samples of asset growth and capital structure of PT Bank Tabungan Pensiunan Nasional Tbk (Bank BTPN) for the period 2012 - 2021. While in the discussion using Multiple Linear Regression analysis tools. Based on the results of the analysis in table 4.7 above using the SPSS application, multiple linear regression equations can be obtained as follows: Y = 3.802 + 0.098 X1 + 0.058 X2. Based on table 4.8 the results of the t statistical test above can be described as follows: 1. Asset Growth (X1) Against Profitability (Y) Based on the table of t regression test results above, the t count of Asset Growth is 2.958 t table = 2.841 so that t count> t table (2.958> 2.841), reinforced by a significant value of 0.032 0.05 then Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. The higher the asset growth, the higher / greater the profitability (ROA) obtained so it can be concluded that Asset Growth has a positive and significant effect on Profitability (ROA). 2. Capital Structure (X2) Against Profitability (Y) Based on the table of t regression test results above, the results obtained t count Capital structure of 3.450, t table = 2.841 so that t count> t table (3.450> 2.841), reinforced by a significant value of 0.048 0.05 then Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. The higher the capital structure, the greater the obligations that must be fulfilled by the Bank. so it can be concluded that the capital structure has a positive and significant effect on Profitability (ROA).
